Getting Married in the Dolomites
by Maximilian Plant
Thoughts on Weddings, Moments, and a Special Place
It is a time filled with excitement and anticipation. A time of long conversations and late evenings spent planning and dreaming. A time of emotions you may not even have expected to feel.
What continues to fascinate me and I have experienced countless weddings by now—is this: every wedding reflects the couple themselves. The way they laugh together. What matters most to them. Who they invite. How the evening unfolds.
No two weddings are ever the same. And that is exactly what makes them so beautiful.
At Hotel Waldrast in the Dolomites, we have had the privilege of accompanying countless couples on their special day, and not a single celebration has ever resembled another. Not even close.
Partly because every love story is as unique as the people living it. But also because of the way we work: we want to create something truly distinctive for every couple. For us, that means adapting to you not the other way around. What do you dream of? What do you need? What should this day say about who you are?
A wedding should never fit into a pre-designed template. It should be your own day, one that feels exactly the way it is meant to feel.
What Truly Makes a Wedding
A wedding is not just one big day. That is something people often forget when they are immersed in seating charts and menu planning.
Couples who book the hotel exclusively which we recommend for good reason—receive exactly that: not just a day, but an entire experience that unfolds at its own pace.
It really begins with the arrival of your guests. Friends reconnect, sometimes after years apart. Hugs are exchanged at the entrance, laughter echoes through the parking area. Even before anything official begins, a special atmosphere emerges everyone is here for you, everyone is excited, everyone slowly settles in. A relaxed gathering where guests come together and prepare for what lies ahead.
Then comes the evening before the wedding. The bride's closest friends start singing, and before long, everyone is in tears—because, or perhaps precisely because, it is so beautiful. A long, quiet conversation with parents about this important milestone. About the past. About tomorrow. About all the things that are rarely spoken aloud.
Late at night, at the bar, the best man puts a hand on your shoulder and, without saying much, simply raises his glass of Scotch and says: “You’re doing the right thing, my friend.”
Then the big day arrives.
The ceremony whether in one of the beautiful nearby churches or at the hotel itself—followed by an aperitif on our terrace. Thanks to our location, the sun stays with us until it sets. Guests gather in the warm evening light, glasses clink, the Schlern massif glows in golden hues, and slowly, gently, the celebration begins.
Then comes the wedding dinner. A menu that reflects you, tells your story, and remains a topic of conversation for weeks afterward. Food is never a secondary detail at a wedding it is one of the most powerful ways to bring people together and create lasting memories.
And then the party. No one turning the music down at midnight. Just celebrating the way you want to celebrate, as long and as joyfully as you wish. And nobody has to worry about getting home simply walk upstairs and be in bed within minutes. Safe. Happy. Wonderfully exhausted.
But a wedding should not simply end. It should gently fade out.
The next morning, everyone gathers for breakfast. Stories from the day before are retold, emotions are relived. By the pool, someone tells the same story about Uncle Thomas’ dance moves for the third time and it is still just as funny. Slowly, guests begin to leave, saying their goodbyes and heading home. Not abruptly. Not with a hangover and an empty parking lot. But gradually, at the pace of the couple.
That is what a wedding truly is. Not a day, but an experience.
The Dolomites as a Backdrop – Truly One of a Kind
Of course, you can get married anywhere. But there are places that offer something you cannot plan: an atmosphere, a certain light, the feeling that the setting perfectly matches your story.
The Dolomites are one of those places.
When the evening sun bathes the Schlern massif in warm shades of orange and the air carries the scent of meadows and pine forests, words become almost unnecessary. These are the moments that simply happen and stay with you forever.
For couples dreaming of a wedding in South Tyrol, Seis am Schlern is one of the most beautiful places imaginable. Peaceful and intimate, yet offering everything you need. Historic churches. Stunning panoramic views. And a modern family-run hotel that has cared for its guests for generations.
The Ceremony – Church, Outdoor Celebration, or Deep in the Forest
Just a short distance from the hotel are some of South Tyrol’s most beautiful churches.
Foremost among them is the picturesque Church of St. Valentin, visible directly from the hotel, with the Schlern massif forming a breathtaking backdrop. The Church of St. Konstantin is another wonderful choice for couples wishing to celebrate a traditional church wedding in the heart of the Dolomites.
Both offer views that simply have to be seen to be believed.
For couples who prefer a symbolic ceremony, we offer two equally special possibilities: at the hotel itself, beside the pool or on the terrace, or surrounded by nature in the forest. Far away from everyday noise, in complete tranquility a place where every word carries even greater meaning.
Food as a Love Letter – Our Cuisine for Your Special Day
There is a reason people say that love goes through the stomach.
We take that saying quite literally.
Our kitchen team is highly experienced in creating wedding menus, and we firmly believe that exceptional food is one of the most important elements of a wedding celebration. Guests who eat well are happy. Happy guests dance. And guests who dance create unforgettable weddings.
Together, we design a menu that reflects your tastes, your roots, and your story. South Tyrolean tradition meets modern cuisine, always using fresh regional ingredients.
Not Only for Exclusive Bookings
Even if you decide not to reserve the entire hotel exclusively, you are warmly welcome to celebrate your wedding with us.
In this case, we reserve our restaurant exclusively for your wedding party, ensuring a private and uninterrupted celebration.
Here too, everything is tailored to the couple. While dancing and celebrations are always possible, many couples prefer a quieter ending to the evening.
One couple even chose to skip the party entirely and instead organized a wedding hike with all their guests the following morning. Early in the day, up on the Schlern with the most beautiful reason in the world to do so.
As you can see, there is no single right way to celebrate a wedding. And that is exactly how it should be.
Planning & Organization – We Are by Your Side
Planning a wedding is exciting, but it can also be complex.
To allow you to focus on what truly matters, each other we work closely with experienced wedding planners throughout South Tyrol, or with your own planner if you already have one.
You can place everything in their hands, or plan together with us. We are flexible and able to accommodate a wide variety of wishes and ideas.
For everything we do not provide in-house, we have built a trusted network of partners over many years. We are always happy to share our recommendations. Sometimes the quickest way to find the perfect photographer or florist is simply a conversation with us.
